I Do. (Need Another Wedding-Appropriate Dress!)

The weddings, they just keep coming, don't they? This weekend I'm attending my second October wedding, and it's on the beach. Hard to dress for! I really would like to score a long-sleeved dress and forego the whole irritating wrap thing. I'm hoping to come across a lovely vintage find, but in the meantime (in my cubicle), you can join me as I check out the wares on the fashion superhighway (the internet). um. let's go!



Tuxedo wrap dress, $199. Great color, but you risk a) being that girl who had to wear bright red to the wedding, and b) looking like a soap opera character who just rolled out of bed.



Betsey Johnson polka-dot dress, $295. Well, it has some sleeves. God, this is just so cute. I'd wear this to a wedding for sure. It doesn't exactly look warm enough for a 54-degree wind off the Atlantic, though, now does it? Hmmm...



Angie kimono dress, $62. Oh god, this is perfect! Totally fun, practical, and easy to dance in. And three-quarter-length sleeves! Why is there no Nordstrom's near me??



Maggy London chiffon dress, $168. I do so love Maggy London. How precious is this? Soft, pretty, feminine. Not particularly warm, but hey! The sleeves give the appearance of warmth, and that's almost as good.



Betsey Johnson embroidered silk dresss, $345. Not sure about the colors here, but the idea is what I'm after. At the vintage store. For a few hundred fewer dollars.



Victoria's Secret jersey dress, $88. Don't hate on Vicky's Secret. This has nice detailing, a pleasing shape, and works well with everyone's favorite legwear: leggings! (For weddings though? Maybe not...)



Nicole Miller crochet dress, $109.97. A smart bargain indeed! Perhaps a little dowdy, though, and a pukey color to boot. See how hard this is??



Tracy Feith "barefoot lawn" dress, $164.95. I still lust after this dress, which ex-roommate Jen scored for the sale price of about $149 in Anthropologie a few months ago. It looked 200% dynamite on her.

Any of yous seen some great sleeve-ful dresses I could wear on a New Jersey beach this weekend? I could always wear something already in my closet, but that's no fun. Comment like the wind!

But does this mean that leggings are officially "okay" slash "in"?? I still don't have a pair and I'm still okay with that. However, the other day I saw a girl on 34th Street (of all places) wearing a pair of grey leggings -- a lovely change from the ubiquitous black ones. She was rockin' it right, with a black shirt dress which looked positively great with the contrasting grey leggings. But... are grey leggings the new grey jeans? And I thought tight black pants are the new grey jeans!? Are footless tights the new leggings? And now you CAN wear white after Labor Day? Is Columbus Day the new Labor Day? Is eggshell the new off-white? Life is sooooo confusing, y'awl.

Stoop Sale, the Second

Stoop sales seem to be all the rage on Fashion Binge, so I'm throwing my hat into the ring. Well, it's not actually my hat, it's more my girlfriend and her sister's hat(s). This Saturday, weather permitting, there will be a blow-out street festival on 1st Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue (Manhattan Island, ya'll). All the crazies come out, and residents pawn off their wares. I already unloaded all my good stuff last year, but the aforementioned lady friend and sister will be offering many gently used clothing items at low, low prices.
Other gems from last year's sale included a pair of collector's WWE reproduction belts, sold by a man with a large beer belly (or 12 months pregnant--I was embarrassed to ask) to the owner of a nearby hookah bar.

I had a little chat with the proud new owner, who informed me that his dream is to open a martial arts studio and hang the belts on the wall. Remember, every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings.

I happen to be in possession of this soup-to-nuts publication, but I've yet to test my dilettante skills on any of the projects. Wendy covers everything from equipment to basic pattern-reading skills to fashioning your own pseudo Built By Wendy designs from scratch. And as an added bonus, your $25.99 includes 3 patterns (skirt, pants, shirt).

So for any of you Built By Wendy fans who want to get the look for less (well, less cash at least--not less sweat), pick up the book. In the meantime, hopefully next time you see me I'll be wearing a new creation of my own. I think my hourglass figure would look great in this, no?
