Amy Wineohouse: A Non-Fashion-Related PSA

Oh Amy Winehouse! Girl, no no no! From one boozy Jew to another, PLEASE eat a cheeseburger or something!!! I love your voice, I love that you swear like a trooper, and even though they make you look like a drag queen, I could even learn to love your batwing eyeshadow because it's clearly your way of saying to the world: "Eat me." But I'm NOT loving the track mark chic look!! You look like you've been feeding yourself a steady diet of vodka, coke and air. Someone, please help!

If you haven't yet seen her slur through a shit-faced version of "Beat It," check it out now.

Candle Couture!

This is a brief PSA: These are just the cutest little candle sweaters I have ever seen. A must-have, if you will.

Of course, the cutest one, the stripey number, isn't available. But at $1.95, I'll take subtle cuteness in cream. Only nine left after my order! And also available in mustard, for mustard-lovers....

The ones for tall candles are also two bucks and come in red and cream. I can already see them on my long dining table, looking all pretty.

Gucci autumn/winter 2007-8!

GUCCI'S NEW BLACK
GUCCI's chief executive Robert Polet has silenced his critics by announcing impressive sales figures for the label during 2006. "It's hugely satisfying when you have achieved things others thought could not be done," he told the Financial Times - referring to his appointment in 2004 that many found incongruous with his previous role, as head of Unilever's ice-cream and frozen foods division, with some even nicknaming him "an ice-cream seller". But a 44 per cent rise in profits, which far exceeded analysts' expectations, has been put down, in part, to e-commerce. "I think it's the most exciting new territory and will become the most profitable and fastest-growing store for each brand," he said. Polet also revealed that Gucci Group stablemates Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen are on track to meet their financial targets for the year. The only label to make a loss was YSL Rive Gauche - though Polet pointed out that the house had at least improved its financial situation compared to the previous year, 2005, and further improvements can be expected considering the rave reviews that creative director Stefano Pilati's latest collection received.

Things to Buy That Are Either Orange, Red, British, Bags and/or Cute

Hi y'all! Sorry for the brief hiatus, but I was in Burlington, Vermont. Fashionable? No. Snowy and sweet? Definitely. With great sandwiches everywhere we went.

Okay. Let's get RIGHT to it!

($253, Dutchy, CoutureCandy.com)
A gorgeous staple of a bag, but cost prohibitive por moi, I'm afraid.

(Apprx $70 USD, Accessorize.co.uk)
Simple. Suede... SOLD!

(Apprx $67 USD, Accessorize.co.uk)
This wouldn't usually be my thing, but I think it'd look smart with an all-black outfit and denim jacket, maybe. It looks like the sort of bag Banana would sell out in a minute despite a $268 over-price point.

($36, Oohboutique.com)
Cheap and chic, no? (Courtesy of Budget Diva.)

($45, Oohboutique.com)
How pretty pretty is this? Classy, no? Has anyone bought anything from this joint? This seems like it'd be nice, unless it looks like a sack of crap.

(Apprx $23 USD, DorothyPerkins.co.uk)
This is so presh, and wouldn't it look super-duper cuters with a 3/4-length solid trenchcoat for Spring! Sorta like either of these, no?

($44, BB Dakota, Lulusfashionlounge.com)

($49.99, Urbanoutfitters.com)
Please note: these two jackets count as "cute," since they're not British, orange, red or bags.

K. Back to bags...

($117, Paul's Boutique, Asos.com)
I really adore this peacock bag and some of the other Paul's Boutique bags that Asos is carrying. Including this one:

($128, Paul's Boutique, Asos.com)
Cute also. These remind me of Betsey Johnson bags.

(Apprx $11.50 USD, Fluff, Asos.com)
OMG. This widdle guy is SO cute! And look! He's crying! Maybe he wouldn't be if you bought him!

($104, Halsea, Shopatmilk.com)
Cute!

($39, no brand, eBay)
I bought this bag! While I LOVE orange, it's a bit more traffic cone orange than autumn-y orange, but it's super soft, and I've gotten lotsa compliments on it so far. Yay! Here's the seller from whom I bought it.

LAST BAG...

(Louis Vuitton, Crazy $)
Handbag.com has a gallery of the 40 MUST! HAVE! BAGS! for SPRING! A Louis Vuitton laundry bag is just wack. I don't care if it's made out of the softest leather five thousand thrown-away dollars can buy, or made from Jesus tears or what. It's lame. Abi of this blog has more on this totes (har) folly.

(Apprx $65 USD, Oasis-stores.com)
Very adorbs! Would look just SWEET as pie with some skinny black jeans (oh... who am I fooling... with leggings too!) and a fun yellow top, maybe? P.S: I LOVE that bold solids are in for Spring! YAY! Also... please note: these are British.

($311, Sretsis, Shopatmilk.com)
Very Heidi of the Mountains.

($15, Mrpickles.com)
I know I should totally be getting over cutesy tees, but this is extra true in my case, as this is my home state. Holla!

($74, Disney Couture, Shopatmilk.com)
As much as I LOATHE Disney, this is really cute... But... don't forget... I know a certain SOMEONE who also has lotsa rad jewelry for sale for MUCH less!... Let's take a quick sidetrip... shall we?

($32, Me!)

($18, Me!)

($24, Me Again!)

($40, Meee!)

Ok...

($41, Eveyln, Letrainbleu.com)
Scroll down for these... super cute!

And FINALLY...

($27, Vintage, Vforvintage.com)
Um, hi. Could this be the cutest thing ever? I think yes.

($17.54 Giannascloset.com)
I lied. The turtle skirt WASN'T the last item on this mammoth list. This skirt is. Because it's so NOT cute it's almost scary. Why would I add this? In case you needed a break from all that cuteness.

Toodles!

Fashion news 2007

Paris fashion week
Paris Fashion is coming to a close which means another season's shows are over and all the tired fashion editors can go home. Celebrity sightings have been a little bit thin on the ground, although Mischa Barton turned up to watch Dior, the Olsen twins are in town and, our personal favourite, Barry from Eastenders put in an appearance at Hussein Chalayan. Aside from that, everyone's talking about the fact that Nicolas Ghesqiere has abandoned his sci-fi influences in favour of a thoroughly wearable ethnic/preppy look (our shopping list is compiled already), and the way that Viktor and Rolf tested their models to the limits by rigging them up with lights and speakers. Still yet to come are Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Lanvin and Chlo, as well as the Olivier Theyskens' debut collection for Nina Ricci, hotly anticipated since Reece Witherpoon stepped onto the red carpet in one of his creations this week at the Oscars.

(Non)Shopper's Lament

Oh, man. Tamron has me feeling shameful. I'm not keeping up! I have been such a good little nonshopper in the past few weeks (months, even!), what with trying to save money and having to downsize my closet space for a move. How boring. Also makes me a bad fashion blogger, huh? Here's the one thing I recently allowed myself.

American Apparel turtleneck dress, $40. Swingy shape; thick, comfy cotton; cozy turtleneck. I love this dress. And the first day I wore it, I saw a co-worker wearing the same one in another color. Recommended! And FYI, they have way more colors in the store. I got it in brick red after a fierce internal debate.

And that, unfortunately, is all I have. Hey Tams, wanna go shopping soon? Like, IRL? I know it's hard, but step away from the computer!

Help Me Help Myself (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love Linen Pants)

Um. Yeah. I kinda... um... turned my Windows browsing into Windows shopping this week. Oops. The itch turned into a scratch, and I heeded the call to action. But, the good news:

a.) It's all work-friendly and perfect for spring and summer.
b.) I put very little of it on my credit card - huzzah to at least being sorta financially responsible.
c.) I got LOTSA discounts! Yay me!

So, where's the beef, you might ask? Follow me on a recap of what was a true Fashion Binge:

From Modcloth.com

($53, Soundgirl)
I couldn't get this out of my head for DAYS. I knew it had to be. I can't WAIT to experience its gentle, comfy warmth! It's very Lily Allen, no? (Hopefully that'll be a good thing).

($29, Mi & Rena)
Looks cute and comfy and easily adapatable to the seasons. Yay!

I used a discount code and saved myself: $8.61

From Lulusfashionlounge.com

($33.50, Soundgirl)
I HAAAAAAAATE shorts, so I've resigned myself to wearing sundresses and skirts (MUCH more on that below).

($26.50, Lush)
I caved and bought this. I love the color combo. This combo and turquoise + red can't be underestimated. Loves! Hopefully the boobers action won't be too severe, and if so, hopefully that can be rectified by a Federline tank (I sorta hate the term "wife beater," yet "white tank" lacks the descriptive powers of that more un-PC term.)

What I DIDN'T buy:

($72, Jeffrey Campbell)
So... hard... to... resist. But I DID it! Hootyhoooo!

Bonus: Free shipping!

Target.com

($4.99)

($6.99)
There's absolutely no good excuse for buying these. A total impulse buy. I need more t-shirts like Brooklyn needs another baby.

What I didn't buy:

($18.99)
Why? Because it's sold out. Frowny face! But check out the other ones! Tres "Easy Rider."

Oh yeah. Total savings: 10% from a coupon, I think.

LaRedoute.com
Okay. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I even shopped here, let alone how much shit I bought. 75% of the merch here is totally Mom-jeansesque. And UGH those fucking poly chiffon tops with the fucking beading and those long-ass Stevie Nicks velvet skirts, again with the fucking beading. Gah!!! Wait... make that ... 92% of everything on this site sucks. But there is actually that slim 8% that is, to me, acceptable. You'll note that everything I bought was a basic piece that can be coordinated and accessorized accordingly until maximum cuteness has been achieved. (And you know I'll do it, too.) Plus, J.Crew and Banana Republic often crank out totally boring -- I'm talking Norton's Anthology levels of boredom -- shit and peeps be all up in that shit, snatching up $88 generic, solid-colored skirts like they were piping-hot platters of cornish hens with copious sides of greens and potatoes for days during a tragic olde-tymey famine. But I digress. And anyway, I don't need to justify myself to you, okay?

Right. (Help!?)

($14.99)
Got this in grey.

($12.99)
Got this one in olive. How cute will this look with little black ballet slippers, um, and NOT white espadrilles. Gah! White!? Really?? And that chick looks like Rachael Ray. Snoozetown.

($12.99)
Got this in turquoise and green. Again, with cute little flats and a solid black tank? Adorable City, USA!

($29)
I got these in taupe. And they're linen. I know. You're maybe thinking: "Taupe? Isn't that just another word for 'boring'?" You're also maybe thinking: "Ew. Linen?" And maybe also "Why am I still reading this? Shouldn't I be reading the Times or something instead?" Well to answer your first question, I'd consider these to be more of a Stone or a Slate or Shale or some other fashionable geological hue. And I know. Linen, especially in pant form, basically sucks. But these look super soft and comfie. If they prove totes heins, they'll go right back to the questionable site from whence they came. And to answer your last question: I don't know... and Yes.

($14.99)
I got these in Olive. Again, because they look comfie. Will I utilize the magic convertible function of these pants? Um, no. Convertibles are for cars, not clothes. Probably the only thing more embarrassing than owning convertible pants is wearing that do-rag and crappy t-shirt too. Plus, after buying taupe linen pants, who fucking cares at that point, you know?

($39)
I've been looking long and hard for a spring-y coat. Hopefully this'll be perf. And I'm still super stoked over the winter trench I got here, and it's garnered many compliments, so hopefully this'll pick up where that left off.

What I DIDN'T buy:

($129)
An unseen force has attracted me to these. Probably the same enigma that guided my hand toward the taupe linen pants. Sigh.

Discount: Coupon code 1651-00000-0368 for free shipping!

K. I'm tired. Help. Nighty night...
